He'd never say he was scared, but he'd come into this fight just after Ishifude had beaten several combatants before Ken had even stepped up. Scared or not, that did provide Ken with a certain level of intimidation. He'd come into the fight expecting to need great conviction if he wanted any chance at defeating her. But that mindset had put him at a disadvantage in this case, and acting to trade blows far too early when it became clear now such tactics were not needed. It certainly chagrined him and it wasn't even really her fault. She'd just given him a little slap on the hand and told him to do better. And it seemed he had, at least so far. He could only pray he would not make so great a mistake again during this session.
He was pleased to take first blood, but the pride of having that was minimized by the fact that the only reason he got it was because she had not taken it first during the initial clash.
Seeing her sheath her blade and take his stance, or something similar to it was certainly a strange image for him. It gave him mild discomfort, like being hit with light vertigo. Perhaps that was a little dramatic, but he had not expected her to take his stance.
He sheathed his blade once more, taking the formal position to match her. Watching her as she made her approach while he moved to step sideways, circling, watching, and waiting.
He measured the distance between them, keeping the range of his blade in mind, considering the methods with which he could draw and strike her. She copied his stance, but he doubted she was as fast as he was in the way of the draw, even so, she had proven a rather tricky opponent. He could only imagine she had a tactic in mind, so for the moment he decided to tread with caution, waiting to see how she would move, if she would attack first, or if he would be forced to make the first move.
