A peaceful late summer night rested over the Yokohama prefecture of Japan; the people were going about their usual monotonous routine of a life… if they were not already asleep. It was a state of perfect peace and quiet that was almost eerie, like the deserts of Hueco Mundo. Above the city proper the air in the cloudless night sky warmed and split to reveal a darkness that was darker than the light polluted night sky, the pale light of the moon seeming to get swallowed up into the voice that was beyond this tear in reality.

A figure walked out into the air as if it were a solid spot of ground. This man clad in white took a few more steps out of this tear in reality before turning around and spreading his arms wide in a grand gesture with a big grin splitting his dark face. His intensely bright amber eyes being like stars in the night. His broken white mask hung over the crown of his head as he scanned the area. His grin wavered, wow this place was boring.

“We are here!” Orion announced reaffirming his grin to the pair of Arrancar that had followed him. “Now, I suggest we stick close to Mericia and find those pesky earthly attachments she is holding on to.” The goat arrancar spoke as he waited for his companions to leave the Garganta so he could close it up and stop drawing unwanted attention from possible Shinigami. He knew that he could not take any in a straight fight, especially none that had attained that annoying release state to their sword… Ywain on the other hand… he was going to need a lot of baby sitting.

“We are here,” announced Orion. The strange warmth of a cool summer night was familiar enough as Mericia Battenberg stepped out from the void of the small Garganta into the open air, stray reishi particles binding together beneath her feet to form invisible platforms. The air was so thin. A mild hunger scratched at her from within, familiar yet far more controlled now. A greater urge welled up within as purple irises gazed down into the abyss of skyscrapers and labyrinthine metropolitan streets.

“Every bit the patchwork quilt of culture I remember it to be, although,” she admitted while brushing a stray length of hair from her face, “it really hasn’t been that long.” A few years at most, in reality, though perhaps her strolling aimlessly through the wastes of Hueco Mundo had made it feel like a lifetime and then some. Regardless, it was a deeply emotional—yet barely expressed—struggle in her mind over the love and hate she had for her hometown. A city of firsts, from English-language newspapers to Chinatown, yet just as much a city of lasts—last breaths for the living.

Kobayashi… Matsuda… Ueno… Shibata… Names rung clear in her head, not yet forgotten for their follies and foolishness—certainly not for their betrayals. Four souls still alive and kicking, ignorant of their sins, perhaps each in their early thirties by this point in time. Their faces were just as crisp. But for the time being, she shelved the itch to hunt them down relentlessly, cooling her nerves with a deep inhalation of nightly, spiritually dilute air that only seemed to further her hunger.

“I hope none of them have changed jobs or moved house since then,” Miss Battenberg exhaled, realising that finding her ‘friends’ in such a densely populated city would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Even if she remembered everything about the four of them, there was no guarantee that their lives had been as stagnant as her unlife had been in the time passing. “Hm. That raises another point…,” the Arrancar continued, resting a hand over her Hollow Hole, though she did not finalise that thought…

Ywain #1

Stepping through the garganta and into the human world Ywain took a deep breath. Ah the sweet smell of life, pollution, humans stuck on top of one another, dirt and most importantly... meat. Were there any sweeter smell that those of the dense human lives stuck to one another in confined spaces like in cities like these.

Ywain whistled a he looked to the horizon. "Phew! I don't think there was anything so big last time I hung around this world! this place is huge!"

While this was true as far as the King of Beasts' conscious part was concerned Ywain was still mentally aware of what everything was, cars, skyscrapers, neon lights. He knew what they were, just... had no real context for them. That information probably being left over from some other hollow he ate at some point.

Slamming his fists together the loud one looked to Mericia. "Right then! Where we going!?"

Orion listened to his companions as they arrived, hearing their opinions on the world around them. Many of the souls that rattled around Orion had lived in the world when it was in this state and felt a sense of familiarity, imparted it onto his current form of consciousness… Whether any of those feelings were originally his or just some amalgamation he didn’t care, Orion was who he was now and there was no need to change that. As that sensation flittered through him he let the garganta slam shut to trap the group in this familiar yet alien land.

“Well, we aren’t going to make any progress looking down on them like a child dose an ant hill!” Orion spoke before shifting his footing and the angle that he created the reishi platforms that he stood on and began to slide downwards at a controlled speed. A grin formed on his face as he got faster and faster.

“Come! Let us explore and hunt for your prize!” He called, showing his enthusiasm to spend some time in the world of the living. As he descended to the point that the taller buildings were level with him he stopped the slide by jumping in the air to swing from a flag pole that jutted out from one of them. After a summersault the goat horned arrancar laughed as he created some reishi platforms to slow his descent just before hitting the ground.

“It’s good to let the inner child out every now and then!”

“Where we going!?” Ywain’s enthusiasm was perhaps a little overwhelming, but Miss Battenberg simply eyed him with a grim, empty expression. Too much of that enthusiasm could have provoked unwanted attention from those who guarded the mortal realm. Before she could even think to get a word in, however, Orion had taken unprecedented initiative and hurtled from the night sky down into the city below. He had a point. Retribution wouldn’t come to her if she stood here contemplating.

“For now,” she began, looking back at Mister Galigan, “we stay close to one another and avoid picking petty fights—or making any sort of scene. Running around like pea-brained children will only draw eyes and ears that I would rather not deal with so soon,” the lady Arrancar elaborated, albeit a bit sharply as she made her own steady and much more moderated descent into the streets of Yokohama.

“This street. I know it,” Mericia motioned, watching as dozens upon dozens of men and women of various ages passed them by without a care in the world. Taxi cabs funnelled in and out on one side of the road, picking up and dropping off their passengers, whilst neon lights blared in a cacophony of vibrance that vastly trumped the monochrome world from whence they had walked. “Follow,” she added after a moment of recollection, tracing an invisible thread through the world with her gaze as she began to walk the pavement, taking some courtesy to avoid oncoming foot traffic—a courtesy seemingly not shared by the rest of this world as civilians simply walked right at her…

Ywain watched as the other two Arrancars descended somewhat gracefully to the ground level. too slow for the King of beasts.

Ywain just... dropped he stopped whatever control he had over his reishi and and let his body fall to the ground below. The pavement cracked under him and the mighty warrior's legs simply impacted like a pair of poles, no crouching or mitigating the impact, such a fall was nothing to one such as he.

A couple of mortals near the impact point jumped in surprise wondering what had just happened, some asking if it was an earthquake of if something had fallen, yet they clearly began ignoring the scene.

Pah! Humans sure could be stupid. Well there wasn't much to do for now but to follow along Mericia and Orion, if everything went according to plan, Ywain Galligan would soon find his personal target barring their way.

The sure made the King of Beast grin.

"Alright then." Ywain replied to Mericia's command as he began to walk behind her hands in his pocket. Soon it would be fun times.

Standing tall after his landing in the middle of the busy street the goat horned arrancar examined the world around him with a distant sense of familiarity. Bustling streets, flashing lights, and moving cars gave one aspect of the many souls that made him up a sense of belonging. A homeliness that just felt right, which brought a smile to his face. The chaos of a bustling city seemed so flashy, a place like this could be a great home for him. There were plenty of people to be enamoured by him and his over the top showmanship.

“You got it boss.” Orion rumbled as he began to walk. Each step forward allowed him to exude himself, a radius of low spiritual pressure like a bubble that just made people want to avoid it. The crowd parted for him as he continued to walk, but it wasn’t doing so for Mericia. With a light chuckle he adjusted his pace and strode up beside the arrancar woman so she would be included in the small radius of easy passage.

“Who is your first target? What do they do? How best can me and Ywain help you?” The flashy arrancar asked, wanting to know how best to insert himself into the machinations of the revenge craving woman at their head. This way the trio could better work together for a more spectacular outcome.

“Who is your first target?” Orion asked, walking side by side and exerting just enough pressure to perturb people. People that couldn’t see them—the ignorant masses—seemed to give some berth to the trio as they walked along the streets of Yokohama, guided by Miss Battenberg’s memories of just a few years ago. Ywain at their back made them seem an intimidating crew, even to those who would be spiritually aware. Not that any such sort had revealed themselves as yet. Few and far between, or so she assumed based on her last trek into the living world, back when her biting blades had waited patiently for the moment to close around the neck of a fast-fading Shinigami.

“Assuming he still works the same job at that cabaret club two streets down, Matsuda Kōji,” Mericia said, venom hiding in the enunciation of the man’s name as she spoke it. “…As Hollows, even though we can’t be seen by most living people, our touch can still be caustic to them. Getting in and out unseen won’t—or at least it shouldn’t—be a problem for us,” she added, giving a momentary glance to her companions. Neither were particularly subtle folk, but their respective flashy and boisterous natures meant little in a world that couldn’t perceive them.

“I’d simply need you both to keep an eye out for anyone who can ‘see’ us,” the lonesome Arrancar explained, this time highlighting their purpose for her ploy. “And to stay alert for any spiritual influence, like Shinigami who might send a reconnaissance team if we cause too much of a disturbance. So try to curb your obnoxious revelry as much as you’re able, at least until I’ve dealt with a couple of my targets…”
