Velttruvia Boonduen
Basic Information
Other Names: Septa
Epithet: The Storm-Chasing Predator
Race: Arrancar
Organisation / Squad: El Espada
Rank: 7th Espada
Class: A
Personality and Appearance
Personality:
Velttruvia can best be described as a straight forward and blunt individual. To her only one thing matters, Strength. The Strong dominate or devour the Weak, and do so as they please. Yet she does not view Strength as a simple matter of physical power. Strength can come in many forms, primal might, technical skill, the loyalty of others. She will admit that a group who work together to overcome foes stronger than any individually are in fact Stronger than those foes. The strength she pursues is pure, individualistic personal power, and at times it seems her acknowledgment of other 'forms' of strength is more a grudging acceptance of reality than something she actually approves of.
To seek Strength is all that matters, and thus every one of her own subordinates must do this as well. They do not need to do it in the same way she does, but any of her Fraccion who stagnate or falter face at the very least, intense scrutiny. A worst case scenario would see her personally stepping in to see if they're even worth keeping alive. The pursuit of strength has no ending, and any who think they are as strong as they can be, have either admitted to being prey or forfeit their life, a choice that seems to have little actual distinction in her eyes.
Despite her seemingly grudging acceptance of forms of strength less straightforward than raw individual power, several of her closer Fraccion don't fit this mold, specifically so they can advise her on matters she might miss or misunderstand due to her limited perspective. Admitting weakness does not make one weak, only refusing to do anything about it does.
She has absolute loyalty to the Hollow King. He who has mastered not just individual Strength, but also commands the strength of countless others. He is supreme and as long as he remains so, as long as she remains beneath him, her loyalty and commitment is unwavering.
Appearance:
Velttruvia is a tall and imposing woman. A tanned body with a head of wild black hair that seems to billow behind her like a dark stormcloud. Her right eye is the fragment of her mask that remains, looking like a fragment of the skull of a fearsome, bestial thing, covering right eye and part of her forehead. Her hollow hole is right below the throat, where the center of the collarbone would be.
Her outfit involves a white coat edged with black, the right sleeve gone, allowing her arm to move more freely. The left is armored, gauntlet, a leather pad over the elbow and pauldron. Her legs are in large sleek and voluminous pants, although the legs are short, stopping midway down calf, showing off sturdy, supple boots the kind a woodsman might wear when traveling. She rarely wears anything else, although for formal events she might wear a similar outfit sans the armor and fully sleeving both arms.
Combat
Fighting Style
Velltruvia's fighting style, especially in her normal form, can feel less like fighting and more being hunted. With her zanpakuto in hand she tends to vary from ranged to melee combat, often starting at range, hurling attacks at a foe like a hunter trying to fell their prey, throwing her spear is not uncommon in this, although usually is accompanied by her rushing in immediately after. The foe that takes their eyes off of her after the spear is thrown is in for pain. Up close she goes for brutal, killing blows, attempting to waste no time in dragging out a fight. Her left arm is used defensively, the armor meant less to stop damage, but to use the angles and shapes to better deflect blows and open her prey up for a lethal thrust, rarely will she use the weapon in both hands, but if disarmed or fighting hand to hand she will gladly use both to try and crush and hammer an opponent into the ground.
Zanpakuto
- Name: Cazadora
- Description: Velltruvia's zanpakuto is a short polearm. When the haft is set upon the ground standing up, the tip of the weapon would barely come up to her shoulder. The haft is entirely black, while the blade itself is white and exagerratedly serrated, having two large 'teeth' jutting from the top, like the fins of a harpoon. The weapon truly can be called a harpoon as much as a spear.
- Resurrección: Perseguir la Tormenta
-Description: Velltruvia's original hollow form was mostly humanoid, slightly larger than a well built man, with a black body that seemed almost chitinous, covered in flexible, tough plates, with sharp, white growths lining along the joints, the shoulders, the elbows, the knees, and tipping the fingers of the hands like claws. A long, whip like tail, with a similar 'finned' blade to Cazadora completes the look, with Velltruvia's full human face situated where once the bestial mask of her former self sat.
While within her Resurrección static fills the air, and lightning naturally gathers and flashes across the sky around her. This is not something she can direct, in fact this electricity is drawn straight to strike her, which is exactly how her ability works.
Depredador de Tormentas
When struck by powerful electrical charges, Velltruvia's body is empowered, her strength, her speed all increase dramatically, albeit temporarily. Striking her can be dangerous as the electricity coursing through her can channel up the enemy's weapon, and she can even accelerate how quickly this electricity is expended for greater feats of ability. However, it is somewhat random as she has no real ability to control how the lightning that springs up around her falls, although raising her tail high up into the air works excellently as a lightning rod. In a fight with Velltruvia, the foe not only needs to avoid the lightning randomly striking the area, but try to force her to avoid it too.
- Aspect of Death:
Predation
To be hunted down, to be stalked and killed, for survival or for sport. Velltruvia considers it one of the most fundamental and ancient forms of death, something that every living thing inherently understands, whether they're alive or not.
Velltruvia's aspect manifests in a strange way, in a sense it can be called the power of 'familiarity.' As the hunter, the predator, stalks and comes to know the prey, they learn where to strike to cripple and kill most effectively. Those battling Velltruvia had best end the battle quickly, as the longer it goes on, seemingly the more powerful and damaging her attacks become. In truth they haven't grown in power at all, but her prey simply have less ability to withstand the predator's claws.
Cero-arts:
- Unique Spell: Cero Tormenta
- Description: A trick of her Resurrección, when charged by a bolt of lightning, she can expend it immediately, channeling it all into a Cero of tremendous power and speed, having little warning or charging, a sudden destructive beam with the goal of laying waste to her enemies.
Backstory
To become a Vasto Lorde is to be the very pinnacle of Hollow evolution. This was something that Velttruvia had always believed, especially after she had become one herself. An apex predator of Hueco Mundo, she carved out her own territory, a personal hunting ground in which she was the undisputed master. However, change came to Hueco Mundo, and spread across it slowly and steadily. It was only a matter of time before the growing Arrancar began to intrude upon her domain, to even establish bases, settlements. She treated them as she did any who lived in her domain, as prey.
A terrible predator, whose arrival was heralded by the flash of lightning and booming of thunder, she'd hunt any who came upon her, only to be humbled and humiliated. An arrancar of supreme power, the King himself, Dantemus, humbled and humiliated the Vasto Lorde. She who thought herself rivaled only by her fellow Lorde's, only rivaled and never surpassed, who had thought herself at the pinnacle, was shown just how far from the peaks she truly was, and yet...the Hollow King did not simply kill the wild beast. Instead she was given that chance and choice.
If she truly wished to approach the real apex, she had but one path. She could discard her mask, tear it from her and start over. If she became an arrancar, the power she could attain would be far greater than before, but she'd be starting from the beginning. All her tremendous power would vanish and she'd have to gain it all back. That, or she could remain a mere Hollow, playing at being an Apex Predator.
The choice was a simple one really. She cast away her mask, and though being reduced to something so weak did pain her, it also served as motivation. No longer a Vasto Lorde, but an Arrancar, Velttruvia began the long, grueling climb to attain her former power, and then surpass it. She clawed her way up the ranks of the Arrancar, she nurtured her strength learning new things, remembering the old, and occasionally indulging in the strange sensations and urges that came with a more human body.
Her power grew, and she gained new understandings of power and strength, partially spurred by a desire to understand the perspective of her king, but also due to...having to. Battles won or lost based on the help of others, being outwitted and outmaneuvered by a weaker foe, she grew and developed and learned, until at last she claimed the title of Espada. She had surpassed what once she had considered the very apex, and still felt nowhere near the peak, keenly aware that not only her King, but six others stood above her. Yet if anything it is only further motivation. Perhaps, there are even peaks beyond where even Dantemus himself stands, and as long as she continues to pursue it, she may yet see a glimpse of them.
