From the Point of View from Captain Toshirō Adachi after the events of World Event: A Shinigami In Trouble
The door to the captain commander’s audience chamber sung open and Captain Adachi Toshirō appeared with his back to the rest of the congregated captains. He was the last to arrive to an emergency captains meeting that had been called in the late afternoon. It was rare for this to happen, and the late captain had to arrange some matters. Matters like who is going to watch his daughter while he was pulled into this mandatory meeting.
“That’s right Sweetie, go and play with Shizu and the other Lieutenants. Daddy will be back for you as soon as he can.” Captain Adachi cooed to a small girl that was out of sight behind the door frame. With a lean he smooched his daughter on the cheek and stood up tall as a set of footsteps took Lieutenant Ijimori and the small child away.
From inside the audience chamber the other captains displayed an array of responses, from not caring at all, to giving the man a chuckle… or in some cases scoffing. Was it wrong for a man to love his daughter and to want to spend time with her when the mother was busy? These people were each going to need another dose of the baby pictures… but not now. Now it was time to be serious.
Captain Adachi turned around and walked forward with a stern gaze and walked ahead to take his place next to Captain Saeki… who was missing. The door closed behind him, and a Squad One attendant placed the sealing spell on it to indicate the meeting was starting and there would be no intruders. Doing this without the captain of Squad Twelve was certainly dire, had something happened to the woman?
“Sorry I am late everyone, I had to convince Shizuka to baby site while Lenalee is away on a mission.” He spoke, letting his eyes scan the faces in the room to gauge the response to bringing up Captain Saeki’s daughter. Like him most looked troubled to varying degrees, this was dire indeed.
The head captain let out a soft sigh before addressing the assembled captains. “As Captain Adachi is finally here, let us commence the meeting.” He said, using his sterner voice, the one he only used when he was being a stickler for the rules. “As you have all noticed, Saeki Azai is not with us here today.” He spoke in a matter of fact. “She will not be joining us again. As of this afternoon she has had her rank stripped and has had her connection to her Zanpakuto Severed. She stood accused of grave crimes.” The head captain announced.
The entire room came to a rigid standstill as the last person to do something that would get them executed was Azai. Adachi had on several occasions had tea with the woman after her husband died. He was her original captain just after she had left the academy. Each of the other captain’s reactions were similar, even Yorutatsu had a look of shock on her face. Those two had never really gotten along.
“Captain Saeki was always a wild wallflower. She was never one whom I could read.” Captain Fujimaru spoke solemnly, being the first to break the silence with his strange metaphors. If he had actually took the time to socialise outside of his own squad, he could have seen how Azai was feeling.
Captain Tategawa of the Tenth Division raised his hand and looked directly at the captain commander. “What were those crimes? Captain Saeki never struck me as someone who would do anything bad.” He spoke, getting everyone’s attention.
“Saeki Azai stood accused of performing hollowfication experiments on many Shinigami. There was overwhelming evidence to prove said fact.” Head Captain Miyamoto spoke solemnly. “Most of her subjects had been Shinigami who had gone missing in the line of duty over the years, thought to either be AWOL or killed by a Hollow” He carried on, sounding convinced that this had actually happened. He must have seen the evidence, and it must be damning.
From behind his masked helmet Captain Terada could be heard grumbling as Captain Kurogami frowned. By all accounts he and Captain Saeki were also friends. This was shocking… every captain was someone special, aside from Squad Eleven every other captain was brought onboard after recommendations from other captains.
Captain Shiroyama was the next to vocalise any sort of response. “So, you’re saying she was the reason members of our squads vanished?! You said she was stripped of her rank and Zanpakuto. You didn’t say she was executed.” The woman spoke, her notorious dark aura of anger ebbing from her.
“That is correct Junko.” The captain commander replied. “Something happened before the execution and a third party rescued her. Central Forty-Six have put out a standing order to kill Saeki Azai on sight. Effectively exiling her without her Shinigami Powers.” The old man intoned, his eyes staring forward with a serious and hard stare.
Captain Yoshino stood forward and looked onward. “Central Forty-Six had also tasked me with finding a traitor within the Gotei 13 and quashing their operation. Now a Traitor has been exiled I can operate more in the open. If Saeki is the traitor, then she may have allies within or outside of the Gotei 13 that are still working to perfect Shinigami Hollowfication. Any Shinigami capable of Hollowfying must be approached with caution and executed like the abominations they are.” He spoke, causing the captain commander to nod.
The elderly Shinomori sighed softly at the spectacle and shook her head. “As always, bring me the wounded. Squad Four will clean up your mess.” Her face showing no real signs of emotion or hurt from the recent news as it seemed she was just wanting to get back on with things. To go back to business as usual.
Finally Captain Tsukimoto looked from under her hood and locked eyes with the captain of Squad Two. “You said if. Do you think Saeki was framed?” She asked, a good point to make. Adachi was going to move forward to follow up on this point but the tired looking captain of Squad Two responded first.
“I, nor any of my squad oversaw this investigation. Until we see the evidence it is still inconclusive.” He said coldly.
“Enough, we have been given orders from Central Forty-Six, it is useless to speculate them at this time. You are dismissed, ponder all of this and if you have issues come and seek me out and I can bring your points up to the judges.” The Captain Commander spoke, offering a finality to the meeting as the doors opened up, proving the sealing spell had been removed.
