Personality and Appearance
Personality:
- Notable characteristics: Tietian is memorable for her eccentric personality, having a preoccupation with violence more fitting for a member of the 12th division, a curiosity rivaling a corpsmen from the 11th, and the head-turning presentation and delivery of a 9th division thespian. Any of her peers in the 10th division will attest to her obsession with fighting and the art of violence, to the neglect of everything else, despite otherwise being a calm person. They'll also speak to the amount of ritual Tietian appends to the art of killing. Blunt and impudent as she may be about broaching the topic, make no mistake: Tietian takes no pleasure from fighting. Her opinions on violence (and even they aren't so cut and dry as seeing life as valuable and sacred) are so strong as to make it a last resort for a situation that cannot be resolved through words, under normal circumstances. Needless to say, her beliefs won't factor into her ability to follow orders - but how the fight serves her own personal path to 'enlightenment' might.
The oddity's in Tietian's persona extend into how she presents herself to others, as mentioned before. She's a no-nonsense woman with contempt for opaqueness, and the ceremony of social choreography, and makes everyone who interacts with her aware of that. That frostiness doesn't remain long after these initial introductions, however. Once she can establish an expectation of frankness, she becomes much more approachable and amicable. But it shows in those opening moments of first-time conversation with her, and even her style of dress to a great extent. Tietian, in her seat of office, wears high-quality formal clothes emblazoned with the Qi family crest as part of maintaining her position, but doesn't go any further than wearing them while out and about. She'll wear her head decorations halfcocked, robes slack and open-chested, and forgo shoes entirely on the average day. For no reason other than abhorring the 'purposeless' convention that says she should not.
- Goals: Tietian is a calm person seeking violence. She sees combat as a novelty but also as an impenetrable mystery. Why are we satisfied to define ourselves through conflict? What makes the gospel of the blade so attractive? She's made it her life's goal to understand that.
Appearance:
- Description:
Tietian is of above average height and fair complexion. She keeps shoulder-length hair, most of it tied into an updo with an ornamental hair pin. On the whole, she's a well groomed individual with an unorthodox style. There's an intentional halfassedness to the way she constructs her outfits, put together as required to cover her bare form and with no other considerations outside of her day-to-day personal taste. Pulling from a wardrobe of crest emblazoned hanfu, she can come off as impudent to the high society cabals that understand the ceremony that goes into just donning and doffing her garbs when she steps into public view in trousers and an open chested jacket robe and chest binder. Otherwise, Tietian's antique style can be viewed from any opinion, as a queer antique to modestly unkempt.

Endurance
Trait Name: Steel Becoming
Trait Description: Tietian has trained her mind, body, and spirit together in the pursuit of strength, and just sometimes, the three together unify to enact peerless Violence. Tietian doesn't just use her body as a weapon, but can temporarily infuse it with the transforming power of her reiatsu to become a weapon, drastically increasing her killing potential. She can clash and parry swords with her bare flesh and walk away unharmed when all her body is involved in the heat of battle.
Reiatsu
Trait Name: Bared Edge
Trait Description: Leveraging spiritual pressure is a facet of mental combat that Tietian excels at. Her meditation on the artistry of Violence has borne a supremely hostile reiatsu, the shinigami's soul being as much a blade as the rest of her. She can wield her spiritual pressure as a cleaving spiritual force that compels others to react, projecting her killing intent as a phantom presence that obfuscates her next move. Effectively, she targets the instincts of her opponents by bearing down on them with the whole of her killing ability. Indeed, the more reliant an opponent is on their reflexes, the less good they'll do against Tietian.
Zanjutstu
-
Hakuda
Aspect Name: Becoming Steel
Aspect Name Description: Tietian has trained her body not to become a weapon, but as a weapon. She's comfortable with the movement and strike patterns of traditional martial arts, but even more so when mimicking the killing potential of a bladed edge. Her attacks are just as effective at crushing and concussing as they are at slashing and lacerating, and she is able to make use of sword techniques when fighting barehanded.

Fighting Styles
- Name: 108 Combat Methods of Arhat, or Arhat Fist
- Description: A system of hand-to-hand techniques passed down through the Qi family, for use in ritual combat, dueling, assassination, and war. The style is broad enough to appear in drastically different ways in several users, but Tietian's Arhat Fist is no exception. She seeks to create the most total collection of killing arts of them all, not excepting weapon techniques either. This leads her to adopt principles of weapon fighting into her hand-to-hand combat, both for the purposes of defending against them and inflicting the most about of damage as possible. More than just a stratagem, Tietian's Arhat Fist is a philosophy: to see violence from the perspective of the weapon to become the most peerless killing instrument.
Zanpakuto:
- Name: 镰刀第九辐 (Liándāo dì jiǔ fú / Scything Ninth Spoke)
- Description: A shorter zanpakuto than most, with a wide flat blade and pronounced curve at the tip. More resembles a niuweidao or billhook than any sword.

Techniques:
- Technique Name: Handsword Strike
- Technique Description: A knifehand chop down with the broad side of the hand. An effective tool in defense when used to blow threats of like strength, and in offense when striking muscled areas in the upper body with hard bone. When empowered by her reiatsu, these deceptively fast blows can cleave an enemies skull in two, making it especially dangerous.
- Technique Name: Spear Hand Strike
- Technique Description: A spear hand strike using the users extended fingers to batter soft tissue areas. Done from short range, this can be even more dangerous as the target may not be able to evade the blow in time. Tietian increases their utility when channeling her unique reiatsu, enabling her to skewer enemies in typically impossible fashions.
Backstory
Tietian was born to the Qi clan, an aristocratic house of souls in the Seireitei with ambitions of becoming a recognized Noble House. Many sons and daughters of the main family and their relatives became ranking shinigami, which was were a great part of their authority came from. Outside of this, they saw respect as mystics, gurus, and craftsmen knowledgeable in secrets lost to the living world and Soul Society alike.
In Tietian's era of the Qi clan, contributing to and upholding their names prosperity had become paramount to all things in the lives of its clansmen. Consequentially, they were often at odds with each other just as much as they were with their competition in other aristocrat and Low Noble families. Tietian saw plenty of that in her upbringing, and it was an environment that terrified her. She had no control over the under-the-table politicking and ritual violence that could decide her life or death, and it terrified her. More than that, it confounded her. It was dizzying watching men and women choose bloodshed over peace, brothers dueling until gruesome injury or ordering the death of the other for merit and wealth every time, and to be told that was the natural way of things. In her heart, she knew it was savage and barbaric, this constant in- and outfighting. The commodification of violence, that terrible, necessary evil.
She sought an escape and thought to find it beyond the Seireitei's walls. Slipping away from her clan estate, Tietian wandered the Rukongai for several decades in search of a better life than what she had. It was here, she imagined, that the weight of violence on all things would be recognized. But even here there was suffering and conflict. Violence perpetuated against shinigami, by shinigami, and indeed by the citizens of the Rukongai against their neighbors. And in her heart, Tietian knew it was savage and barbaric, this constant in- and outfighting.
Tietian stayed in the Rukongai for some several dozen more decades, bouncing between districts, meditating on the everyday violence she witnessed and engaged in for survival. Her travels and meditations ultimately brought Tietian back to the Seireitei, where she elected to join the Shinigami Academy for the privileges it would allow her. In the process, she re-connected with a cousin from her family, who sponsored her training in the academy under just a few conditions: destroy the Qi family's dream.
